Corfu is the best known islands of the Ionian sea.  It is the northernmost island of the Ionian and stands at the entry of the Adriatic sea, close the Epirus coasts.  Its northeastern coasts are close enough (about 2 kilometers) from Agii Saranta in Albania. It is about 591 square kilometers with a coasts length of 217 kilometers.

It is one of the most popular tourist destinations every year.  It has an immense cultural heritage, exceptionally interesting tourist attractions, matchless coasts of unequalled beauty and important tourist attraction such as the Pondikonissi, the Kanoni [Cannon] and Mon Repos.  The special architecture of Corfu and the pronounced Venetian elements are impressed in the buildings adorning the city of Corfu, the British Governor’s Residence, the old Saints Michael and Georges, palace, the Capodistria mansion, the Metropolitan residence, the City Hall, the building of the Ionian Academy.

The appellation of Corfu [Kerkyra] originates from Phaeax, son of Poseidon [Neptune] Corcyra, the daughter of Aesopus.  According to mythology, Phaeax founded the kingdom of Phaecians, that was the last Odysseus [Ulisses] stop before his arrival at Ithaca.
