Corfu Golf Club
The gorgeous Corfu Golf courses have been described by many people as one of the best hidden secrets in Europe.
The idea for its creation originated from Constantine Karamanlis, prime minister at that time and later President of the Hellenic Republic. Thus he implanted this idea to his good friend, Charalambos Tsaousoglou, who materialized it. The course was drawn by Donald Harradine, the famous Swiss architect, who married harmoniously the natural beauties of the Ropa meadow with his interventions in order to create an agreeable course for both the good player and the neophyte.
Today, it is a magical site with alleys around the fairways, lakes, creeks and the surrounding hills in the background. It is a habitat full of animals and birds (kingfishers, herons, otters and fishes). The river of Nausicaa, the beautiful Phaecian princess who rescued Odysseus [Ulysses] when he shipwrecked at its estuary is in front of the 1st tee, a few meters from the Hermones seaside.
During the last three years, both the building and the course have been entirely renovated. The bunkers shape changed, deepened, acquired a drainage system and were filled with sand was especially brought from the island of Melos in the Aegean sea. Specialized contractors were entrusted the installation of the new irrigation system, manufactured by TORO, which brought immediate results, maintaining the course in an exceptional condition during the hot summer months.
